Liebster Award!

Hi guys!

Although I’m on holiday right now and wasn’t possible to post anything for a week (have not been able to find wifi anywhere but  now I have!) I wanted to say something about the Liebster Award. I have been nominated by Joana and Reb Elle. It’s quite similar to a tag, you nominate 11 new bloggers with under 200 followers and answer 11 questions. It’s a great way of getting to know new blogs and promote some fantastic newbies! So, here are the questions!

liebsteraward

1.    Why did you decide to start blogging?

I’m interested in everything fashion and beauty related and have been reading blogs for years. I’ve been wanting to make a blog of my own for years but could never muster up the courage to do so. With the beginning of the year 2014 I set myself some goals and making a blog was one of them! So, here we are. Another goal of mine is to start a youtube channel but I need to do get myself a new camera first because my Canon 1000D just won’t do 😀

2. What bloggers inspire you the most?

I read so many blogs and on many different subjects but since this is a beauty and fashion blog I’ll stick to my favourites on these subjects. I follow many beautyblogs but when talking about favourites there are two that definitely stand out: zoella and lily pebbles. They’re such great inspirations and just look like fun people! On youtube I would have to add thatsheart. She makes such great videos. I always love watching her vlogs.

3. What is the one product you cannot live without?

As a beautyblogger this is such a difficult question! I love so many products and I’m addicted to several of them but if I have to choose it would be a blush and more specifically the Blushing Blush Powder Blush by Clinique in “Precious Posy”. When I’m going out without make up (which almost never happens) the only thing I do like to put on is blush. When you have the right blush for your skintone it makes your whole complexion so much more healthy and lively. That’s why I love “Precious Posy”. It resembles my natural blushing colour and since I have very few redness in my face a blush is a must for me! Otherwise my face looks so colourless. So blushes are my favourite items!

4. What is your go to item in your wardrobe?

This is also a very difficult one for me but I would say black legging, jeggings and skinny jeans. I tend to pick out very colourful and printed blouses, t-shirts and sweaters and some black skinny jeans compliment these items the best. I was looking at my wardrobe the other day and notices I have over 5 pairs of black trousers. And that’s just what I wear the most.

5. What is a trend that because big that you just didn’t get?

I know a lot of people like these and I won’t judge you if you do but I just don’t like faux fur vests. I don’t see myself in one and never seem to like it on anyone! They’re just unflattering and I don’t think there’s anyone who can convince me. Not even Thatsheart, who I’ve mentioned before. She likes them and wears them all the time but whenever I see her in one I can’t stop thinking “that outfit would look so much better if you threw that furry thing off!” :D.

6. If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

I have never ever been to the US and would love to go there some time. I would love to visit New York!

7. What is your favourite season of the year?

My favourite season would definitely have to be autumn. I love the moderate temperatures and I’m a very visual minded person and it happens to be that I love the colours of autumn the best. Orangy tints, browns, gold, yellows everywhere. The falling of the leaves, Halloween,…

8. If you could be any celebrity for the day who would it be?

For the celebrity I would choose Keira Knightly. She is such a talented actress and on top of that she is superpretty!

9. If you could have any superpower what would it be and why?

I’ve read this on several other blogs but I would have to agree and say teleportation. Public transportation and traffic are just such a hassle. How fantastic would it be to think of a place and within the minute you’re there!

10. What is your favourite fashion or beauty trend at the moment?

Light pink coats! I just love love love this trend. It happens to be one of my favourite colours and it complements my skintone and haircolour. I still don’t own one thought, but I’m saving for the right one!

Pale Pink Coats

11. Most played song on your phone or other devices?

This is probably “Snap out of it” by the Arctic Monkeys. Fantastic band, fantastic song. Need I say more? 😀

So, these were the questions I hope you’ve enjoyed it and liked my answers and here are my nominations.
I nominate:

  1.  Annie
  2. Nicola

Simple, rosy and natural makeup look

There is no look I like better than a “no makeup look”. For those of you who don’t know what this is (which I hardly doubt): it’s a makeup look with very basic, nude colours and textures (low in shimmers), so that it looks as if you’re not wearing any makeup at all. The key is to stay as close to your natural complexion as possible. Today, I’ve made the look slightly more rosy and pink than I would normally do, but especially during the wintertime I love a rosy/pink blush. It gives you a lovely red flushed face like if you just had a walk in the cold.

I would have loved to take a picture in natural lighting but since I was home very late I had to do it with my bathroom lights:D . Now, on to the make up: For foundation I am wearing my favourite lightweight foundation the “Face And Body Foundation” by Mac in N1. But, since I have a very pale skin even this colour can be (often during the wintertime) do dark and yellow for me. In this case I like to mix up the N1 with the same foundation but in “White” also by Mac. This is a great idea for when you have bought any foundations that turned out to dark for your skintone. You can just mix them up with the white base, which is also very blendable and actually made to be mixed with other foundations. This time I haven’t used any concealer because I felt like the foundation gave me enough couverage. But this just depends on how good my skin looks (luckily no break-outs today :D). For blush I used the “Fit me Blush” by Maybelline in MediumRose210. The camera doesn’t do it justice. The colour is a bit pinker in real life.

For my eyes: on my eyebrows I’m wearing “Eye Brows” by Mac in Fling. This is a very light colour to fill in your brows but perfect for eyebrows with low pigmentation, like mine. It also looks very natural and that was the goal for today! I’m also wearing my favourite everyday mascara, which is the “Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting Mascara” by Estée Lauder in 01Black. It’s a lovely mascara which doesn’t look over the top but still gives you a lot of length. For my eyeshadow I got to use my Naked2 palette. On the lid and inner corners of my eyes I chose for “Suspect” from the naked2 palette. For the crease and the outer corner I went for “Snakebite”.The only thing that’s still left is the lipsitck “Color Sensational” also by Maybelline in the colour MetallicRose146.

This was my makeup look of the day. I hope you’ve enjoyed it and do tell me if you like it!

My pale skin story: “why are you so pale?”

Hi guys!

Today’s post is a quite heavily charged issue and a bit controversial. But I’ve been thinking about this all day and finally came up with the right words. I hope it’s something some of you can relate to and can sink your teeth into.

Yesterday, yet again, I got the question: “why are you so pale?”. First of all I want to say that I was born with a full head of reddish hair. Although I do like my red-blonde hair, as you know a pale skin, often with freckles comes along with it. In my case an extremely pale, ivory skin but without the freckles. It’s sad but true that people with red hair are often bullied. This was also the case for me when I was younger. I must say I wasn’t often bullied for the colour of my hair but far more for the colour of my skin. By the time I was 10 years old I became so self-conscious of my pale skin that I absolutely HATED it.

LilyRosettePaleSkin

I was so jealous of people with darker, tanned skin. I was even jealous of my own sister. She has very light blonde hair and lovely yellowish,  sun tanned skin. After the period of absolutely hating my own skin came the time that I wanted to do everything to get a tan. Sunbathing is virtually impossible for me because I just get a massive sunburn (even with spf) and a bit of freckles and after a week or two that’s completely gone again. It’s also very damaging for the skin and I’m so happy I never really went overboard on the sun tanning because my mother was so clever of forbidding me to do so :D. I’m so thankful for that because it’s only later that you can see the damage it has done. After I had realized how damaging the sun really is, I discovered “the fake tan!”. At that time I felt like it was the most amazing thing I had ever discovered and used. When I look back at pictures of that time I can tell you with certainty that it definitely wasn’t! I looked HORRIBLE. I owned every self-tanning lotion or spray you can imagine and they were all way too orange for me and I had patches and orange spots everywhere. I aslo dyed my hair blonde and it was the worst thing I have ever done for my hair. My hair had never been more dry, damaged and thin.

Looking back I just can’t believe that I just couldn’t accept myself as  I really was. It was only about four years ago, when I started studying at the university my body image changed. I studied English and Dutch literature and came across a lot of references to beauty of past eras/times. There were countless discriptions of “beautiful” women and they all had lily white, ivory skin. This got me thinking about skin colour and beauty in general and how it all has to do with perception. Do we really need to fit in the image of beauty of our time? What has changed so much that pale skin became a complete no-no! I did some research and found that it was the one and only Coco Chanel who changed the image when she came back from her holiday in the Mediterranean sun with a bronzed skin and declared “A girl simply has to be tanned“. Thanks ever so much Coco! Just kidding! I don’t really believe that she was the only reason the ideals changed but she probably did play quite a big part in it. The fact that certain things do get in and out of fashion is a normality but I think it’s awful when people get bullied or rejected just because their looks, nature, colour, hair, skintype, whatever doesn’t fit into that fashion “hype” of the moment. Even if that “moment” takes up about 90 years :D, as in my case.

I’m so happy that I’ve learned to accept my skin colour and that I’ve learned to love and embrace it, even though it took me 18years to realize how pretty it can be. Although I still like tanned skin, I think it’s only pretty when it’s natural or it looks natural. I stronlgy believe that natural beauty is the only beauty. There’s nothing more pretty than somebody embracing his/her natural look and enhancing it (by make-up, fashion,..) and not trying to change or hide it.

Although I have accepted myself and my skin colour, I still hate it whenever I get questions or remarks like “Why are you so pale?”, “You need to get some sun“, “Do you even leave your house?“, “Are you sick?“.What makes people think it’s ok to ask something like that? Would you ask or say things like that to someone with a darker skin? No you wouldn’t. For some reason it’s generally accepted that tan means health/ beauty and that everybody fits in to that ideal. Whilst this is not the case. I’m not healthy because I have a bit of a tan. If that’s the case it means that I’ve spent hours and hours in the sun and that my skin is severely damaged.

Moral of the story here however is that it’s just not acceptable to comment on someone’s skin colour whether pale or dark. And that if you feel good and are happy with the way you look that’s the only thing that matters. Everybody is different and in his/her own natural way beautiful and don’t let anybody tell you otherwise!

Outfit of the day!

Hi guys!

This is my first outfit of the day or actually of the night. Tonight was datenight! I went for dinner with my boyfriend (lovely traditional fish&chips from a great Irish pub called “St. James Gate”).

Fish and chips!

After that we went to the movies. It was the new “Paranormal Activity”. I was so scared haha. I always regret watching a scary movie afterwards. I’m such a chicken. Now on to the outfit! I’m wearing a white knitted sweater by h&m. It looks quite simple but I love the knitted detailing which adds a special touch to the sweater. And I just love these types of sweaters. I probably own way too many of those! The sweater is tucked into a simple black skirt from Forever 21. At my feet I’m wearing my knee-high socks from Riverwood but I’ve but I’ve scrunched them down to fit in my light brown leather boots from Quicksilver. They’re supersoft and comfortable. For jacket (since it is quite chilly in Belgium at this time of year: about 10 degrees Celsius, which is actually still quite warm for this time of year) I’m wearing a black leather jacket that I bought in a boutique in Montréal (Canada) last year. I don’t really remember the name of the shop.

For jewellery I am wearing two bracelets by Pull and Bear and my white Lipsy London Large Faced watch. My gold necklace with black beads I bought in H&M. For my earring I’m wearing black pearls by Forever 21.

On to my face: I’m wearing the “face and body foundation” by Mac. Yes, I have very pale skin but I wear it with pride! Sometimes especially during wintertime the N1 can still be a bit too yellow for me. Then I like to mix the foundation up with the base white version of the “face and body foundation” by Mac. Just a little tip for all the other palies out there like me! For my eyes I used a glittery white eyeshadow as a base and on the inner corners of my eyes and filled it up with a taupe coloured eyeshadow for the outer corners of my eyes. Both these colours are from my Pupart-pallet. For mascara I’m wearing the “Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting Mascara” by Estée Lauder in 01 Black which is by far my favourite mascara. It makes my eyelashes superlong and more importantly it doesn’t crease! I hate when mascara clutters my lashes together! The only downside is that it’s a bit on the pricy side but for me totally worth it. On my cheeks I’m wearing the “defining duo blush” by Catrice in 050 Apricot Smoothie. A lovely apricot-tint for a pop of colour in my face.

So, this is my complete look of the day/night. Hope you’ve enjoyed it!

2014: New year, fresh start

Hello everybody!

Yay! 2014 is upon us. And what’s a better start of a new year than to start by doing something you’ve always wanted to do? I’m finally starting a blog!I have wanted to do this for the longest time and I finally mustered up the courage to begin. First of all I want to start by saying that English is not my native language and that is why there may be (and probably will be) a lot of mistakes.

My name is Lily Rosette and I live in a small town in Belgium. I’ve made this blog to share my interest in and passion for everything beauty and fashion related. After reading loads and loads of posts on other beautyblogs (for about 3 years) I finally decided that 2014 is my year!

This is a picture of me for those of you who wondered what I look like. I’m wearing a knitted top from Massimo Dutti and a tweed jacket in black and silver by H&M. On my lips I’m wearing “Ruby Woo” by Mac.

I want to thank you all for reading this sort of introductory blogpost and I hope you’ve enjoyed it!
